Overview

Effective catheter braiding is fundamental to achieving the balance of flexibility, torque transmission, pushability, and kink resistance required in advanced catheter systems. Meddux engineers every braided catheter shaft around the intended clinical application, selecting braid architecture, wire geometry, and reinforcement strategies that deliver predictable mechanical performance while maintaining manufacturability.

Our expertise in catheter braid pattern engineering includes optimizing braid density, pick count, braid angle, and material combinations using stainless steel, nitinol, and other specialized alloys. Each reinforced catheter shaft design is developed to provide the appropriate balance of shaft support, flexibility, and torque response, enabling precise device navigation through complex anatomical pathways.

As part of our comprehensive medical braiding services, engineering teams work closely with customers to refine reinforcement strategies through prototyping, performance evaluation, and iterative design optimization. The result is catheter shafts engineered for consistent performance, reliable manufacturing, and the demanding requirements of minimally invasive medical devices.

Catheter Braiding

Advantages

01

16-Carrier Braider

An industry standard 16-carrier configuration, run entirely in-house, covering the vast majority of medical device braiding applications.

02

Braid Pattern Options

Standard full-load, half-load, diamond, and triaxial patterns, each carrier engineered for a specific combination of braid density, pick count, and braid angle to hit the torque, flexibility, and pushability targets for that device.

03

Reel-to-Reel & Discrete Processing

Both continuous reel-to-reel and discrete-part braiding, done in-house, with wire geometry and reinforcement strategy adjusted for each format.

04

Wire Inventory

Stainless steel, nitinol, and tungsten wire kept in-house, sized and alloyed to the mechanical performance profile each device calls for, with sourcing partners covering additional wire sizes and materials as needed.
