Startup company contracts Meddux to develop novel neurovascular catheter with integrated energy therapy delivery.
Addressing a critical gap in neurovascular treatment options, our customer aimed to pioneer an innovative solution for re-establishing patients' blood flow as part of treatment for a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. As an innovative startup company, they needed a specialized partner to bring their proprietary electrical stimulation treatment to reality. Meddux was selected to design and develop a 2.0Fr neuro-microcatheter with integrated electrodes capable of delivering their unique energy therapy directly to the affected area, promising to reduce complications and improve outcomes compared to conventional post-aneurysm treatment approaches.

Meddux and our customer explored innovative catheter construction methods that would successfully integrate mechanical reinforcement with the necessary electrical pathways connecting the therapy-generating electronics in the handpiece to the distal electrodes. Meddux leveraged extensive experience in microcatheter engineering, alongside the customer's input, to identify several promising construction approaches for prototype development and testing.
Utilizing our specialized catheter braiding, coiling, and lamination equipment, Meddux delivered proof-of-concept prototypes that achieved mechanical performance comparable to industry-leading microcatheters while incorporating the active electrodes essential for delivering the customer's therapy. These prototypes underwent animal model testing to validate product feasibility and therapeutic potential.
Meddux applied critical insights gained from early prototyping combined with specialized knowledge of advanced catheter construction techniques to establish a scalable manufacturing solution. This approach ensured the final design would not only meet performance requirements but could transition efficiently from development to production.
The customer selected Meddux as their development partner, based on our demonstrated capability to rapidly produce early-stage R&D prototypes while maintaining a strategic focus on long-term manufacturability and cost considerations. Meddux delivered both functional proof-of-concept prototypes and a forward-thinking design architecture that successfully optimized the crucial balance between manufacturing efficiency, microcatheter flexibility, and overall performance requirements.
